Zone file import and export, TLSA records, inline record editing, bulk delete, and a long list of DirectAdmin and provider fixes.

DNSense changelog cover: a zone file with a TLSA record and import and export buttons

The biggest release of the year. Zones can now be moved in and out of DNSense as plain zone files, records are edited without leaving the table, and DirectAdmin finally behaves.

Zone file import and export

A zone can be exported as a standard RFC 1035 zone file, and an existing zone file can be imported into any connected zone. That covers migrations from providers we do not integrate with yet, and it gives you a backup format that any DNS server understands.

Inline record editing

Click a record name, TTL or value and it turns into an input right there in the table. Confirm with the check, cancel with the cross. No dialog, no page reload.

Bulk delete

Select records with the checkboxes and a bar appears with the count and a delete action. Cleaning up a zone that accumulated years of stale records is now one pass instead of one dialog per record.

TLSA and SRV records

TLSA records are supported, which is what you need for DANE. SRV records now work across DirectAdmin, Openprovider and Cloudflare connections rather than Cloudflare alone. Both types have their own filter in the record type row.

Add multiple records at once

The create record dialog queues records and submits them together, so setting up a full mail configuration is one action instead of seven.

DirectAdmin

The DirectAdmin integration got the most attention this release:

  • Admin and reseller sub-accounts are supported.
  • Error messages from DirectAdmin are parsed and shown as-is instead of a generic failure.
  • Adding an MX record now explains the DirectAdmin specific requirements up front.
  • When TTL is disabled on the server, records fall back to a one hour default rather than failing.
  • The API client was rewritten for reliability.

Time machine

  • History can be searched.
  • Scheduler mutations are logged, so scheduled changes show up in history like manual ones.
  • Time machine is available in Spaces.

Security and accounts

New accounts go through email verification before activation, and the welcome mail only goes out once the address is confirmed. Two-factor authentication is available in Spaces, and connection credentials can be replaced without deleting and recreating the connection.

Everything else

  • Selected zones are sorted to the top of zone lists.
  • The record table renders significantly faster on large zones.
  • MX Toolbox lookups moved into the record menu.
  • Mobile layout fixes throughout.
  • Cleaner connection setup forms.
  • New pricing tiers with updated connection limits, and subscriptions can be deactivated from the app.
  • Fixes for TransIP MX records, Porkbun reliability, Namecheap connections, Openprovider record editing and Cloudflare API stability.

Feature requests are welcome. If something on this list is close to what you need but not quite it, tell us.
